Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is behind the collective?

Founder Melinda Wang has advised artists for over 15 years and saw a need for professional development services that are typically reserved for artists who are working directly with galleries, dealers and museums. In Spring 2019, she brought together our members so that they could share their different areas of expertise and provide artists with practical and strategic professional development advice on all facets of their art careers.

  • Why Ninth Street?

The name of the collective honors the Ninth Street Show in New York City in 1951, a ground-breaking exhibition that pushed American art to the art world’s center. For more information about the exhibition, please visit: Phaidon.

  • Do you serve all artists, or only visual artists?

We serve all artists, but focus on visual artists and moving image artists. Please feel free to contact us ninthstreetcollective@gmail.com with any questions.

  • What is your refund policy?

We’re able to offer a refund for your appointment if you cancel 24 hours before your appointment time. Please contact the member with whom you have your appointment.

  • How were your rates determined?

By joining together as a collective, we’re able to offer lower rates than individual consultants offering similar services.

  • Are consultations in-person or online?

We offer one-on-one consultations with artists primarily online, with in-person consultations when appropriate (e.g., studio visit).
